I'm back!

With (if it's at all possible) less of a tan than I started off with!




N E W S



Day One
Wednesday 18th October, 2006


Woke up at 4am to leave the house at 4.30am.

On the plane there were storm clouds to the south of Cyprus. The plane went through some heavy turbulance and ended up falling several (possibly hundred) feet.

"Moved in" to villa. [link] Went for a walk on the beach, choppy waves and very humid. Had a drink in a restaurant while waiting for Auntie Anne (soon to be bride) and watched the thunder and lightning coming in.

Changed restaurants, drank wine and margaritas. The storm started raining on the food, then the power went out (which I later discovered was all across the south of Cyprus) and everyone in the restaurant clapped.

We were ushered inside by the waiters when the roof started leaking and ate the rest of our meal inside by candlelight.

Was flirted at by a waiter (later nicknamed "yes please" by my brother and I)



Day Two
Thursday 19th October, 2006


Woke up at 10am local time and moved from the mountain villa to another that was only 15 minutes walk from the beach and much closer to the other apartments that the rest of the family was staying.

Met up with Dave (soon to be groom) Uncle John, Auntie Anna, Karl and Hayley at Dave's apartment.

The boys went off to play golf at Happy Valley while me Mum, Anna and Granny went to see Auntie Anne (bride) and then on to Limasol. Bought swimming costume, sunglasses and a Greek-English phrasebook.

Saw John and Anna's hotel room.

Unpacked at new apartment.

Had dinner at a fancy restaurant (Kastro) for the bride-less hen-night.

Another thunderstorm, but not nearly as bad.

My eye swelled up, hurt a lot.



Day Three
Friday 20th October, 2006


Stayed in villa for a while as Mum, Dad and little brother, Harry (~flapown) went to Limasol.

Met Granny and Grampie in beach restaurant.

Fetched swimwear from villa but refused to swim in the "refreshing" (you all know what that word REALLY means) water. Watched from the shore as Mum and Dad went sailing [link] and the Mum and Harry went Kayaking [link] .

We had a greek dancing night [link] , I love Brandy sours, and so does my cousin's girlfriend, Bex.



Day Four
Saturday 21st October, 2006


Woke up with mild hangover to find that the toilet AND shower were broken in the villa. Had to have a cold shower outside using the swimming pool shower.

Had an argument over underwear before getting into wedding outfit [link] and getting on the coach to the wedding ceremony [link] . (At the All Saint's Church, Episkopi Garrison.)

After the ceremony, we were coached to the wedding reception at the British Force Headquaters, Officers Mess, Episkopi.

Drank plenty, Brandy Sours, Port, wine, champagne [link] .

Was taught to dance Rock 'n' Roll.



Day Five
Sunday 22nd October, 2006


Lunch at Melanda Beach fish restaurant with Granny, Grampie, Anna and John.

Karl, Hayley, Dom and Bex turned up to say hi before catching their flight home.

Went to Korina, past Episkopi, to see Greek ruins [link] .

Went back to villa for a bit and then went to the same restaurant as the bride-less hen-night.

Fell asleep in the car on the way back to villa.



Day Six
Monday 23rd October, 2006


Met John and Anna in Pissouri and then drove to Paphos. Went to the wrong archeological site but eventually arrived at the Tomb of Kings (original destination).

Had a really rubbish lunch in a restaurant in Paphos Bay.

Bought Sasuke.

Watched Mum, Dad, Harry, and Rory playing minigolf.

Went back to Pissouri and watched Mum, Dad and Harry swimming [link] .

Had dinner in Perry's restaurant before John and Anna had to leave to catch their flight.



Day Seven
Tuesday 24th October, 2006


Woke up, met Granny and Grampie at beach.

Mum, Rory, Harry and Dad swam.

Lunch.

Me, Rory and Harry swam.

Thunderstorm came in (again.)

Went to the villa and sat by the pool before taking Granny and Grampie back to their apartment and packing out bags for the trip home.



Day Eight
Wednesday 25th October, 2006


Did some last minute packing.

Had breakfast in 'Kastro'.

Drove to paphos airport with me in the boot.

Large queue for PRE-check-in and no seats in the waiting lounge.

On the aeroplane, the in-flight movie was "Runaway Vacation" (starring Robin Williams).
